What do light box cartoons, hand-etched styrofoam and graffittied landscapes have in common?
They all feature in Justin Feuerring’s new exhibition Rebellious Nature at
Rtist Gallery in Melbourne, opening on 27th October 2011 & Global Gallery in Sydney, opening on 2 November 2011
Street and gallery art collide in Feuerring’s contemporary practice and his exhibition, Rebellious Nature, opening on 2 November at Paddington’s Global Gallery, will show over 100 works across the gallery’s six spaces, with each room presenting work of a particular genre.
Rebellious Nature includes artworks created over the past few years that are representative of Justin Feuerring’s highly graphic and patterning style, expressed across a wide array of media.
With large and small canvas works, single unbroken line drawings, large works etched on styrofoam with acid and a ‘resist process’, highly patterned light boxes, sculpture and installations, Feuerring’s artwork is diverse and resists being defined into a singular category.
In some of the key works he investigates and comments upon allegations of contemporary art fraud,
particularly in the lesser known arena of street art fraud, and contextualises it historically, drawing links with art fraud throughout the ages.
Rebellious Nature is Justin’s 11th solo show. In addition to creating his own artwork, he is keenly sought after to work with community groups, school children, companies such as MTV as well as numerous charities. He is rarely without a marker or paintbrush in his hand.
